Rachael Lynch

Champion Goalkeeper, Nurse, and Mental Health Advocate

Rachael Lynch is a powerhouse on and off the hockey field. As a dual Olympian, veteran Hockeyroo, and acclaimed goalkeeper, she has represented Australia in over 230 international matches, securing two Commonwealth Games gold medals and a World Cup silver medal. Renowned for her skill and resilience, Rachael was named the 2019 FIH World Goalkeeper of the Year and has earned numerous accolades, including being the goalkeeper of the tournament at the 2014 World Cup and 2019 Pro League Finals. Her illustrious career has spanned more than 15 years, highlighted by her stellar performances at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021 Olympics, where she helped Australia achieve a 5th-place finish while conceding only two goals in six games.

Rachael’s journey began with selection to her primary school's state team and blossomed into a distinguished international career, debuting for the Hockeyroos at the 2006 Champions Trophy in the Netherlands. Alongside her athletic achievements, Rachael has been an integral member of the Australian Olympic Committee's Athlete’s Commission since 2021, where she can be seen using her voice to advocate for athlete welfare and the Olympic movement.

Beyond the pitch, Rachael’s contributions are equally inspiring. A registered nurse specialising in neurological rehabilitation, she has been a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, managing testing for FIFO mine workers in Western Australia. She also owns and operates STOMP Goalkeeping, a business dedicated to mentoring aspiring athletes.

As a passionate mental health advocate, Rachael is a proud ambassador for RUOK? Day and Lifeline, delivering workshops on resilience, performing under pressure, self-care, and suicide prevention. Her dedication to mental health earned her a place in the 2020 Olympians For Life program, an honour awarded by the World Olympians Association to only five athletes globally.

Nicknamed "Junior" or "Lynchy", Rachael’s dynamic career and personal mission to inspire others make her an extraordinary role model. Whether she’s wearing the #27 jersey as the Hockeyroos' steadfast goalkeeper or empowering communities with tools to support mental wellbeing, Rachael Lynch exemplifies excellence, compassion, and unwavering commitment.
