Sophie Delezio

Sophie Delezio’s indomitable spirit first captured global attention on December 15th ,2003, when, at just two years old, she suffered severe burns and lost both feet, one hand, and an ear in a tragic car crash at the Roundhouse Childcare Centre in Sydney. Despite enduring extensive injuries – burns covering over 85% of her body – Sophie defied medical expectations during her six and a half months of hospitalisation, where she not only survived but began the remarkable journey of learning to walk, sit, and swim once more.

Her resilience was tested again on May 5th, 2006, when she faced another life-threatening incident. While crossing a street near her home, Sophie was struck by a car, suffering multiple fractures, a brain injury, and other severe injuries. Once more, her determination shone through during the two months recovering before returning home to continue her rehabilitation.

Throughout her journey, Sophie has become a symbol of courage and hope, both in Australia and internationally, inspiring a wave of support and fundraising efforts. Her family’s foundation has raised over $14 million, advocating for better support and services for paediatric burns patients.
