Dr James Chin Moody
Australian engineer leading the way for a more sustainable future
As one of Australia’s leading engineers, Dr James Chin Moody has been pioneering Australia’s innovation sector with a keen focus on sustainability in science and tech.
James began his academic background in engineering, going on to receive his PhD from Australian National University in innovation theory. Not long after, he was a chief systems engineer at FedSat, where he contributed his expertise to launching Australia’s first satellite in 30 years. He would go on to lead development at CSIRO, one of the world’s largest and most diverse global research organisations, as an Executive Director.
As the Chief Executive Officer of TuShare, James is passionate about building the world's largest community of sharers, in a bid to help reduce landfill and encourage reuse. Having developed a 100% carbon neutral delivery service, James would then expand on the service to create Sendle, disrupting the postal industry with their efficient, affordable and environmentally-friendly delivery system.
Regularly consulted for his engineering insight, James has been a prominent advisory for leading organisations like the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the World Economic Forum, the Global Citizenship Panel for GE, and the Global Agenda Council on the Intellectual Property System.
James has also contributed his knowledge to a variety of mediums, including as co-author of the best-selling book The Sixth Wave: How to Succeed in a Resource Limited World. He was also a regular panellist on the ABC TV program The New Inventors from 2004 to 2011.
In recognition of his work, James was chosen as one of the top 100 most influential Australian engineers by Engineers Australia, one of their young executives of the year by Boss Magazine, named Young Professional Engineer of the Year, Young Queenslander of the Year and Young Australian of the Year in Science and Technology.
