Championing Aboriginal Culture, Education, and AFL in the Media Spotlight
Shelley Ware, a proud Yankunyjatjara and Wirangu woman, is a prominent Australian Aboriginal media personality, educator, and advocate for her culture. Shelley is widely recognised for her contributions to television and sports media, most notably as a key figure on the ground-breaking SBS football program 'Marngrook'.
With over a decade of experience in media, Shelley has been a fixture on both local and notional AFL platforms, including NITV’s Marngrook Footy Show, where she is celebrated for her insightful analysis and commentary on AFL games. She also hosts the web show ‘Colour Of Your Jumper’, engaging audiences in discussions about current AFL topics. As well as hosting her own Facebook show ‘Ware2Now?’, where she shares everyday people’s stories. Additionally, Shelley writes a fortnightly AFL column for the Koori Mail, further showcasing her expertise and passion for the sport. She is also a member of ABC’s ‘Outersanctum’ podcast, and can be seen making regular appearances on the Facebook show ‘Broad Radio’.
Beyond her media roles, Shelley draws on her 25 years of experience as a primary school teacher, specialising in reading and art, and now serves as an Aboriginal Education Officer at Parade College in Bundoora and Preston. She actively promotes the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture into the national curriculum through her work as an education consultant and workshop facilitator in school across Australia.
As a highly sought-after Master of Ceremonies and keynote presenter, Shelley brings her unique perspective to various corporate and public events, where she discusses topics ranging from females in sport and racism, to Aboriginal issues and childhood education. She was honoured as the 2019 Fujitsu General Football Woman of the Year, recognising her significant contributions to both the AFL community and education sector.
