A news and weather presenter for 7NEWS with over a decade’s experience, Angie Asimus is also a guest newsreader on Sunrise and an accomplished MC.
With over ten years of experience, Angie Asimus is a news and weather presenter for 7NEWS.
Growing up on a farm in Gundagai, NSW, Angie is a country girl through and through. In 2008, she began her career in Townsville with Channel Seven, where she became well-known for her weekend weather reports.
Her work gained national coverage as she reported on cyclones and crocodiles, including the devasting 2011 Queensland floods. As a result, she developed a keen interest in the weather. In 2012, she graduated with a Certificate in Climatology from the University of Southern Queensland.
Angie also gained experience as a court reporter in the Brisbane newsroom. She reported on local and national cases, including the trial of surgeon Jayant Patel and former government minister Gordon Nuttall.
In 2012, Angie earned a place among the finalists in the Clarion Awards for her ongoing work as an investigative journalist.
In 2014, Angie joined the 7NEWS team, and since then, she has covered a range of breaking stories, including the Lindt Café Siege, Bondi’s cyclone-strength storm and bushfires in the Blue Mountains.
Since her debut in 2008, Angie has developed critical skills as an accomplished MC. She has MC’d the launch of Emirates A380 in Brisbane, the Leukemia Foundation Gala Ball, and the Australian Turf Club’s Fashions on the Field. As an Ambassador for Act for Kids - a children’s charity dedicated to preventing and treating child abuse and neglect, Angie regularly holds events to raise money for this important cause.
Angie reads the news at 5 pm on Sundays and presents the weather at 6 pm during the weekdays on 7NEWS. She also appears as a guest newsreader on Australia’s top-rated breakfast show, Sunrise.
In 2020, Angie welcomed her first child, Austin, into the world. In her spare time, Angie enjoys creative writing, yoga and painting.
