Legendary AFL player and Captain of Fremantle
As one of Freemantle FC’s best all-rounders, Matthew Pavlich is recognised for his perfect combination of size, speed and skill on the field.
Noticed for his time with the SANFL, and as a centre half-forward for the Woodville-West Torrens, Matthew was immediately set for AFL success as a young athlete. He was selected by Fremantle (Dockers) in the 1999 National Draft, and has quickly become their leading players for 16 years, including 9 years as their Captain.
As the Dockers’ career leader, Matthew’s legendary six-goal performance in 2012 spearheaded the club to the first finals win in Melbourne against defending premier Geelong. He would also lead Fremantle to the club’s first AFL Grand Final appearance. In 2014 Matthew celebrated a major milestone in Fremantle history, having played his 300th game. He is the only Fremantle player to reach this feat.
Matthew has also been named in the All-Australian team six times, playing five different positions. He has also won six Doig Medals and eight club leading goalkicker awards.
Widely beloved and recognised in Australia, Matthew shares his charm as a fan-favourite media performer for organisations like Channel 9 and The West Australian newspaper. Matthew’s best-selling autobiography ‘Purple Heart’, published by Pan MacMillan in 2015, sold out in stores almost instantly.
Matthew continues to inspire off the field through his presenting work for corporate functions. He has a long-standing partnership with large corporate organisations in Western Australia, where he shares his strategies for effective teamwork and leadership.
