Trevor Hendy was a record setting professional athlete, who can now be seen as a life coach, mentor and author in the field of personal truth and wellness
Trevor Hendy works in the field of personal truth and wellness, as a life coach, mentor, author and wholistic personal trainer. His passion lies in helping people discover why they haven’t yet created the life they truly want, and how to begin doing so. In 2000 Trever was inducted as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), for his service to surf lifesaving and the community. As well as being a member of the Australian, Queensland, Gold Coast, and Australian Surf Lifesaving Halls of Fame.
Trevor is unchallenged as ‘The Greatest Ironman in the World’, taking on the sport in 1976, and going on to dominate it into the next century. He competed for the Surfers Paradise club on the Gold Coast, and surpassed Grant Kennedy’s record by winning 6 Australian Open Ironman titles. With many World series and Australian championships under his belt, Trevor constantly found his way through the most challenging of ocean situations under extreme pressures, which showed him the need to slow things down and gave him the ability to complete any task thrown at him.
Trever was extremely successful throughout his professional sporting career, being the receiver of numerous awards. In the 1990’s he was a four-time winner of the Uncle Toby’s Super Series. He also won the 1992 Molakai to Oahu World Championships, and the Malibu championships in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. With 5 first places and 2 second places, Trever achieved an almost perfect point score, and a score that had never been achieved before, making him the man everybody wanted to beat. After setting records that are still yet to be broken, in 1997 Trevor retired from Ironman racing to focus on building a kayaking career. He became a member of the Australian champion K4 1000 team, and won consecutive national titles in 1997 and 1998, as well as being awarded a bronze medal at the World Championships in Germany. He later retired from professional sports in 1988.
After retiring Trevor started coaching and speaking to large groups, where he revealed that no matter the harsh circumstances presented to him, his personal mantra was always, “These are my perfect conditions”. Many who have attended his talks and workshops have walked away relieved, and having realised that when it comes to any type of personal change or challenge, “the conditions are always perfect”, and that it only matters how you deal with them.
Trevor is now a highly sought-after corporate, sporting and life coach, mentor, author and speaker. He co-wrote the book, ‘Shape up Australia’, which focuses on how to regain one’s passion for life, become healthier, and live happily. He also has a ‘Boot Camp for the Soul’, which is a 12 week transformational program, designed for anyone who wants to live their best life. He can currently be seen working on Television, Internet and Radio content, where he shares what he and others are learning along the way, with the aim of giving back to the community that has given so much to him.
