Robbie Farah, a rugby league icon, showcased his talents while playing for the Wests Tigers and the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League (NRL).
Hailing from the western suburbs of Sydney, Robbie's rugby league journey began at Holy Cross College in Ryde. He honed his skills and joined the Balmain Tigers junior representative squad, quickly emerging as a promising talent, ultimately securing a contract with the Wests Tigers.
Robbie's NRL debut for the Wests Tigers occurred in 2003, where he excelled as a hooker. He swiftly established himself as one of the league's brightest young prospects, winning the 2005 NRL Premiership with the Wests Tigers. In 2006, he earned selection for New South Wales in the State of Origin series, playing a pivotal role in their series triumph.
Over the next several years, Robbie continued to shine for the Wests Tigers, earning multiple awards and accolades. Notably, in 2007, he was honored as the Dally M Hooker of the Year and also named the Wests Tigers Player of the Year. Robbie's impressive performances led to his inclusion in the NSW State of Origin squad in 2008 and 2009, where he played all six matches across the two series.
In 2010, he assumed the role of Captain for the Wests Tigers, guiding the team to the NRL Grand Final, though they narrowly lost to the St. George Illawarra Dragons. His leadership persisted over the next few years, with a second Dally M Hooker of the Year title in 2012.
In 2013, Robbie returned to represent New South Wales in the State of Origin series, contributing significantly to all three matches. Additionally, he played a vital role in the Wests Tigers' NRL finals campaign, although they were eliminated in the opening round.
Robbie remained with the Wests Tigers until 2016, after which he joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs, ultimately retiring from professional rugby league at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
Beyond his rugby league career, Robbie actively supported various charitable causes, collaborating with organizations such as the Cancer Council and the Starlight Children’s Foundation. He also ventured into business, including owning a Lebanese restaurant in Sydney and launching a clothing line.
Even in retirement, Robbie stayed connected to the sport, contributing as a commentator and analyst for media outlets like Fox Sports and the Nine Network. He extended his influence through coaching at the junior level and participating in coaching clinics and programs.
Throughout his illustrious career, Robbie was renowned for his tenacity, skill as a playmaker, and formidable defense. His leadership qualities and ability to motivate teammates were equally respected.
In 2019, Robbie published his autobiography, "Farah," offering a glimpse into his rugby league journey and personal life, receiving acclaim from both fans and critics.
Robbie Farah's legacy will endure as one of the finest rugby league players of his era. His fierce competitiveness and leadership, both on and off the field, left an indelible mark on the sport. Despite retiring from professional rugby league, his impact will persist.
