Veteran, Strategic Advisor, Facilitator and Speaker
With 37 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy, Martin’s extensive Naval career involved command at sea and operational roles, including command of an Amphibious Ship in the Middle East and the Pacific, command of the Navy’s elite Clearance Divers, and Deputy Commander of Australia’s Joint Forces in the Middle East and Afghanistan. This all culminated in Martin’s appointment to Program Director for the Navy’s biggest change program, New Generation Navy.
In 2015, he retired from full-time service with the rank of Commodore.
Nowadays, Martin works as a keynote speaker and leadership coach, specialising in helping professionals transform from accidental leaders to someone who is intentional.
He draws on the lessons learnt from frontline operations during his time in the Royal Australian Navy, including the mistakes made and how to lead teams and operational forces through ever-changing, high-stress situations, to deliver powerful keynotes. Martin’s keynotes and speeches encompass strategic leadership, high-performance teams, diversity and inclusion, and cultural transformation.
With a unique combination of his lived experiences, his unexpected humour and his ability to breathe life into universally applicable lessons, audiences are equipped with simple strategies and mantras that they will take with them as they leave the room.
