NSW Nominee Australian of The Year 2021 and Founder of Go Gentle Australia
An award-winning writer, performer and producer, Andrew is one of Australian media's genuinely creative forces with a career covering radio, television, and film.
From the late eighties to the nineties, Andrew hosted numerous shows, including "Blah Blah Blah" (1988), "The Money or The Gun" (1989–1990), "Live and Sweaty" (1991–1995), and a comedy talk show, "Denton" (1994–1995). Since then, he has become one of Australia's favourite media personalities. Andrew has interviewed many famous personalities, including Jim Carrey, Angelina Jolie, Led Zepplin's Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, David Attenborough, Jerry Seinfeld, Helen Mirren, Dave Grohl, Bono, Clint Eastwood and Coldplay's Chris Martin.
In 1997, after witnessing his father's slow, painful death, Andrew became determined to help others avoid this suffering. Since then, he has led an intellectually rigorous debate about assisted death in Australia.
Drawing from over 30 years of experience in the media, as well as his love for stories, Andrew has campaigned for compassionate laws around voluntary assisted dying (VAD) that help protect the vulnerable. He is also the creator of the ground-breaking podcast series, Better Off Dead, investigating why good people die bad deaths in Australia. In his podcast, Andrew covers the personal stories and moral arguments on both sides of the debate and legislation from countries with VAD laws.
In 2016, Andrew's campaign for a VAD law in South Australia was narrowly defeated by one vote. However, he is still determined to keep advocating for VAD in Australia. Since then, Andrew has led successful advocacy campaigns to introduce VAD laws in Victoria (2017) and Western Australia (2019).
In 2021, Andrew was the NSW Nominee for Australian of The Year.
A true advocate for dying Australians, Andrew also established Go Gentle Australia in 2016 to help Australians with untreatable or terminal illnesses, as well as their families and carers.
