Matt Doran
Award-winning reporter and presenter with a passion for investigative journalism
Matt Doran is best known for his regular appearances on Network Ten’s Late News program and The Project. With his experience in news reporting, Matt Doran brings his interviewing skills on-screen to interview the biggest names in Australian politics, business and entertainment.
Having graduated from Melbourne University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Media and Communications, Matt used his journalism major to complete the News Limited cadetship with a high distinction.
Since then, he has garnered extensive background in crime reporting across numerous print and TV newsrooms in Australia and South America. His vast network of contacts has allowed him to explore different stories in unique perspectives, covering everything from fires and floods, to gangland wars and CBD shootings. He has also been an awarded reporter and senior editor across a number of mastheads within News Ltd's Leader newspaper group.
As a prominent member of Network Ten, Matt has covered some of their biggest stories, including the the devastating Christchurch earthquakes, the deadly mine explosion in New Zealand's North, the Christmas Island boat tragedy and the tsunami which obliterated North-East Japan. Matt was also among the first on the scene of Sydney’s collar bomb hoax, securing TEN’s exclusive story that drew international attention. He was awarded the UN Peace Award for Best Television News in 2012.
As a journalist, Matt is passionate about unravelling stories with global implications. Through his investigative reporting, he hopes to uncover the hard news that grip different parts of the world, and shed new light on the issues we face in society.
Matt Doran also undertakes regular speaking engagements for corporate clients. He has worked as a regular MC at functions for Stihl Australia and the AFL functions. Matt has also been invited to host annual functions for the NSW Police, given his background in crime reporting.
Outside of corporate events, Matt is also a passionate ambassador for several non-profit organisations. He is an ambassador for Project Futures, an anti-trafficking charity aimed at stamping out the trafficking of woman and children into Australia and throughout Asia for the purposes of sexual exploitation. He is also an ambassador for Australia’s Bravehearts Foundation – which supports child victims of sexual assault. Matt continues to volunteer his efforts for Swags for the Homeless, a charity organisation which provides bedding for Australia’s homeless people.
