Sheree Marris

Marine Biologist, Diving Deep to Bridge Science and Public Awareness

Sheree Marris has a deep passion for the ocean that transcends mere fascination. She explores the underwater realm through photography and innovative project that bridge scientific research with public awareness. If Sheree could choose, she would prefer to have gills instead of lungs, with a breath-holding ability rivalling that of a sperm whale, and a shimmering green mermaid-like tail. She’s been the Director of Coral Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia since 2018, and the Director of Unico Conservation Foundation since 2015.

From international exhibitions and IMAX films to community engagement initiatives, Sheree is dedicated to exploring and capturing the beauty of marine life. Currently, she is involved in producing documentaries, campaigns in the Saudi Red Sea, an underwater sculpture installation, and a marine exhibition that combines art and marine science.

Renowned as one of Australia’s foremost environmental communicators, Sheree is regular engaged in both television and radio, sharing her insights with captivating storytelling and compelling imagery. She has made appearances on The Project and Studio Ten, providing her with a wealth of public speaking experience. Sheree also contributes to respected publications such as Ocean Geographic, Australian Geographic, and Club Marine magazines, and is recognised both nationally and internationally as part of the Ocean Geographic Society Team.

Sheree’s advocacy extends to her role as an award-winning author. Her book, "Octopuses - Underwater Wonders", is a groundbreaking guide that showcases the astonishing diversity of these remarkable creatures. Her previous work, "KamaSEAtra - Secrets of Sex in the Sea", offered a humorous exploration of marine animal reproductive behaviours and their parallels with humans. Her contributions to conservation have earned her numerous accolades, including Young Australian of the Year awards and the Australian Centenary Medal for her contributions to conservation and the environment.
