Michael Parisi is one of Australia’s most renowned Music Executives; an acknowledged master of finding and nurturing raw talent and connecting it to successful outcomes. In more than 30 years in all facets of the global music business, the artists he has signed have accounted for sixteen # 1 albums, over 40 ARIA Awards, over 15 million album sales and now 2 billion streams and counting.
Born in Italy, but raised in Melbourne, Australia, Michael followed his passion for music into his first job as a writer and advertising salesman for In-Press magazine in 1988.
From Promotions to marketing and label management to Head of A&R, he worked for Warner Music Australia throughout the boom decade of Alternative Rock, helping shape the careers of Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. His first domestic signings for Warner’s Regurgitator, The SuperJesus, The Whitlam’s and Taxi Ride all achieved multi-platinum success.
In 1999, Michael decided to start his own independent label Sputnik Records which was distributed by Festival Mushroom Records. His first four signings Muse (who went on to have massive international success), 28 days, Motor Ace and Machine Gun Fellatio all went to #1 in a climate that favoured straight, commercial pop.
In the early 2000's, Michael became the Managing Director of the newly acquired Festival Mushroom Records having changed hands from Michael Gudinski to The Fox Media Empire under the auspices of James Murdoch. He forged a massive international roster by beating his bigger multi-national rivals in securing deals with Disney, Richard Branson’s V2 Records and Alberts Music. You’ll find Michael’s finger prints on success stories ranging from Kylie Minogue and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack to AC-DC and Garbage.
His Domestic signings at the time included Eskimo Joe, Katie Noonan and George, Scribe, Stonefield, Owl Eyes, Daniel Merriweather and Gabriella Cilmi all of whom sold millions of records across the globe.
During this period, Festival Mushroom became the biggest and most successful independent label in the world.
Today, his management, music publishing and recording connections span from ‘The Voice’ Australia, to a joint venture with the worlds’ largest music conglomerate, Universal Music & Universal Publishing. He continues to guide the careers of Vera Blue, Xavier Rudd, Dan Sultan and Polish Club, to name but a few.
His latest venture The Right Path is a one-on-one and B2B consultancy programme which tailors unique designs for success in this ever changing world of music, technology and business.
Taking risks, challenging the norm and taking on his biggest competitors at their own game, have been the cornerstones of his many successes.
