Chairman of Coopers Brewery
After 23 years as Chairman and 35 years as a Board member, Glenn Cooper recently stepped down from his roles at Coopers Brewery. Born in 1950 and educated at Prince Alfred College, Glenn is a fifth-generation Cooper. His early career began with qualifications in electronic engineering, followed by studies in computing and marketing.
Upon completing his education, Glenn entered the computing field with Anderson Digital Equipment. After two years, he moved to Melbourne to serve as the National Distribution Manager. In 1983, he returned to South Australia to establish a private business in computer sales and contract services, expanding to offices in Adelaide and Brisbane.
In July 1990, Glenn joined the family brewery and took on the role of Sales and Marketing Director, eventually becoming Chairman in 2001. Under his leadership, Coopers Brewery introduced several new products to its beer range, including Coopers Mild Ale, Coopers Dark Ale, Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale, and Coopers Lager. Glenn played a pivotal role in the national growth of Coopers Original Pale Ale.
Beyond his contributions to the brewery, Glenn served as Chairman of the Australian Made Australian Grown Group from 2012 to 2021. He also held director positions in companies such as Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Company and Haymes Paints Australia, and served as an advisor to OBE Organic Beef Australia and the Maras Group of Developers.
In the past, Glenn chaired the Adelaide Fringe Committee (1994-1999) and the Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority (1998-2006). He received a Centenary Medal in 2002 and was honored as a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2005 for his services to South Australia and the Arts. In 2007, Glenn completed the Kokoda Track, following in the footsteps of his uncle, Colonel Geoff Cooper.
Glenn holds an Associate Diploma in Business and has completed the Stanford University Faculty of Business in Singapore. Married to Elspeth, the couple has two children and four grandchildren.
