Bernie Brookes
One of Australia's most outstanding retailers and business leaders
For the past three decades, Bernie Brookes has been regarded as one of the nation’s most outstanding retailers and business leaders. Previously, Bernie worked as CEO of Myer and Managing Director of Woolworths. He was inducted into the Australian Retail Hall of Fame in 2013.
Appointed as CEO and Managing Director of Myer in 2006, Bernie was responsible for managing the carve out of Myer from Coles as well as rebuilding the business. He managed to develop and implement Myer’s five-point strategic plan, ensuring the business is well-positioned for the challenges facing the retail industry.
With over 36 years’ experience in retail, Bernie has also worked in India and China.
As recognition of his commitment to retail, Bernie was awarded with the Sir Charles McGrath award for marketing excellence, as well as the William Booth Medal by The Salvation Army and the Paul Harris Fellow for Service to the Community for the Rotary Club, Sydney.
