30 years ago, Australia – along with 188 other countries – committed to the United Nations Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a bold vision for advancing gender equality worldwide. But despite significant legislative, policy and structural reforms, Australia still has a long way to go to fulfil its promise of being a global leader on gender equality. International Women’s Day 2025 shines a light on what’s left to be done.
We’ve had some important wins. Childcare is cheaper, paid parental leave is longer and more flexible, we have a National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children, there are paid domestic violence leave and workplace protections in place and there’s improved transparency on the gender pay gap. But there’s still plenty of work to be done to fulfil the promises we made when we adopted the Beijing Declaration.
It’s time to turn those promises into progress.
Thankfully, we have some incredible female changemakers committed to inspiring a more inclusive and equal future for our women. Their personal stories of resilience and determination and their unwavering commitment to empowering other women are guaranteed to captivate the audience at your International Women’s Day event – and we’d love to introduce you.
